Access in Summary
There are two bus stops available on Lyndhurst Road which are within close proximity to Worthing Hospital. Buses on numerous routes heading towards a variety of destinations stop here on a regular basis. There is shelter and seating provided at both of the bus stops. A taxi rank is also located directly outside the Main Entrance.
Car Park and Drop Off
The Car Park at Worthing Hospital is located to the front of the site. There are 29 accessible parking bays available that are clearly signed from the entrance. Visitors should note a pay and display system is in place, there are two payment machines located to the left of the Shoreline Restaurant Entrance. There are ample drop off locations situated close to some of the hospital entrances, please note there are time restrictions in place in these areas.
Access at Entrance
The Main Entrance to Worthing Hospital consists of a set of double, automatic powered, sliding doors that are of sufficient width to be accessible for all users. The entrance is clearly signed from approach routes and has weather protection available. The Accident and Emergency Entrance is accessed via a pathway to the left of the Main Entrance. There is level access leading up to the double, automatic doors that slide open on approach. All other entrances leading into the hospital are wide enough to accommodate all users and many have adequate vision panels installed, ensuring safe access into the building.
The Main Reception is located to the right as you enter through the Main Entrance. Staff will assist visitors and patients with directions to departments within the hospital and information relating to any available hospital transport. There is plenty of room in front of the reception desk for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre with ease. Most of the clinic receptions are accessible to all users and offer seating should visitors need to rest.
There are numerous toilet facilities located on each floor of the hospital, including fully accessible toilets. Within the accessible toilets there are grab rails and assistance alarms available, the doorways into the toilets are wide enough to accommodate all users. Plenty of seating has also been provided within the hospital in a range of heights, some of which have armrests available.
Cafés and shops are provided within the premises, serving a variety of items to visitors and staff. The Shoreline Restaurant is located on the first floor of the hospital and serves hot and cold beverages. This is a self service restaurant in which the counter is accessible to all users, please note staff will assist visitors in carrying their food from the counter to their table if required.
Access to All Areas
To gain access to different floors there are lifts and stairs available. All of the lifts at the hospital are suitable for wheelchairs. Access around the hospital is fairly easy due to wide corridors in which the doors are held open. All doors into the wards are wide enough to allow wheelchair users to pass though with ease. There is an accessible platform lift located within hospital offering step free access to the restaurant. Visitors should be aware that these lift controls require continuous pressure throughout the duration of the ascent or descent.
